Today I read Job 34 and 35, the middle of Elihu’s opinion. Elihu says Job sinned and God is not listening to Job. Today I considered that no one is right to limit God’s ability to hear our cries, because God hears us when we pray.

Elihu Elevates Himself

Elihu believes he is wiser than the others, but agrees Job sinned and God is not listening to Job (Job 34:1-35:16). Elihu tells the men to listen to him. Elihu repeats that Job denies doing wrong and believes God has not given Job justice. Elihu says God can do no wrong. Elihu tells Job that Job is not thinking right. God knows everything so Job can’t get away with anything. Elihu agrees with the other men that Job needs to confess to sinning. Elihu says God is so powerful that it doesn’t matter to God whether Job sinned or not but it matters to Job’s family and those around him. People ignore God when all is going good and cry out to God when they need him, but God doesn’t listen. Elihu says Job is crying out in vain.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Elihu does not have the right to limit God. He said God does not hear us. But remember the pray that Solomon made asking God to hear us no matter where we are (1 Kings 8). God is all-powerful but His is also all-knowing and loves mankind enough that he sent his only begotten son, Jesus to die for us so that we have life and life more abundantly (John 10:10). So, pray. Pray and know that the answer may come immediately and it may take a while, but God does hear us.

What have you prayed for that came quickly? What have you prayed for and realized you got it years later?
