Today I read Deuteronomy 3, where the Israelites had victory over Og, divided Hesbon and Bashan among three tribes, and were told Moses could not go over the Jordan to the promised land. Today I considered sometimes you need to stay in one location to prepare a person for the next steps.

Battle and Land Division

The children of Israel defeated Og and divided the land, but Moses was not allowed to cross the Jordan (Deuteronomy 3:1-29). The children of Israel’s path took them through Bashan but king Og sent his people to fight the Israelites. God gave the Israelites victory over king Og, defeating a giant, overcoming the walled cities, and destroying all the people. They took possession of all the cities, cattle, and treasure. The land called Heshbon and Bashan was divided to give an inheritance to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh. These three tribes were still to have their warriors cross the Jordan river and fight with the other tribes in securing the promised land. The Lord told Moses he could not cross the Jordan to the promised land but could go up mount Pisgah to see it. Moses was to prepare Joshua to lead the people to inherit the promised land.  They dwelt in the valley next to Bethpeor.

 Questions and Thoughts for Today

Moses knew he had to prepare Joshua to take over so they stayed in Bethpeor for a while. Moses had make sure Joshua would have the encouragement, strength, knowledge, and everything he needed to succeed in securing the promised land for all 12 Israelite tribes. Sometimes when we are passing on something of importance to someone else, we also need to stay in one place to train and prepare them.

Who have you witnessed sit still or stay in one location to prepare for the coming challenges they would have to face?
