Today I read Deuteronomy 8, where Moses reminded the Israelites of God’s mercies in the wilderness and warned against pride turning them from God. Today I considered that we are to thank God for our blessings every day.

God’s Mercy and Avoiding Pride

God showed mercy to the Israelites during the 40 years they were in the wilderness and they should not lose their coming blessings because of pride (Deuteronomy 8:1-20). When they were hungry, God fed them manna unlike anything ever given to them before. When they were thirsty, God brought forth water out of the rock. God protected them from scorpions and serpents. Even their clothes did not wear out. God corrected them like a father correcting his son. The Israelites are to keep the commandments as God is bringing them into a fertile land with water, grains, fruit trees, and more so they lack nothing. They should remember God gave them the land and blessings and only worship the Lord. If their pride turns them from remembering the Lord thy God, God will destroy them like the nations that were destroyed to get the land.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Every day we wake up there is something to thank God for. We can thank God for air we can breathe, the ability to move around, the ability to hear, the ability to read, water to drink, food to eat, clothes to wear, a place to take shelter, the kindness of strangers, family and/or friends, and more. We can also thank God for prayer, that God hears and answers our prayers.

What are you thanking God for today?
