Today I read Deuteronomy 25, instructing the Israelites to treat people fairly in judgment, be honest when conducting trade, and get rid of those that go after their weak and vulnerable. Today I considered that God expects us to be honest and fair in our dealings with people.
Fairness and Honesty
The Israelites are to judge fairly, trade honestly, and destroy those that go after their vulnerable ones (Deuteronomy 25:1-19). The judges are to honestly judge conflict between men. If a wicked man deserves it, he can be beaten up to 40 strips. When two men are fighting, the wife of one can’t grab the privates of the one fighting her husband. Israelites weight scales are to be balanced and honest. When Israelites receive the promised land, they are to remember to get rid of the Amalekites. The Amalekites killed the weak and vulnerable Israelites bringing up the rear of their group and did not fear God.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
God expects us to treat people in an honest and fair manner. Judges are to go by the law. People trading should have honest scales to measure goods.
What ways do you believe God expects you to show honesty and fairness?
