Today I read Exodus 9, which talks about the plague on the cattle, plague of boils, and plague of hail and fire. Today I considered how God separated and protected His people, and how leaders can sometimes be more difficult to convince than others.
Israelites and Goshen
God can protect His people even in the mist of crisis. After the first few plagues, God separated the Israelites and land of Goshen from the plagues (Exodus 8:22). The Israelites did not experience the plague of flies, loss of cattle (Exodus 9:7), or raining hail and fire (Exodus 9:26). God protected both His people and their dwelling place.
Servants Believed Before the Ruler
Sometimes it’s harder to get a leader to acknowledge God than it is those under him or her. The magicians knew it was God (Exodus 8:19 and Exodus 9:11) and even told Pharaoh. Some of Pharaoh’s servants feared God and protected their people and cattle from the hail and fire (Exodus 9:20). Workers sometimes accept the power and might of God quicker than those in charge.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
God has shown protection of His people even today. During the Maui fires a church and a cluster of houses were spared when everything around them burned. I believe God can choose to spare people and locations.
Have you ever seen God miraculously spare a person or place?
