Today I read Deuteronomy 34, where Moses dies and is buried before the Israelites enter the promised land. Moses prayed and Joshua gained wisdom. Today I considered that elders can laid hands on and pray for the next leader, causing that leader to be blessed.

Moses Dies and Joshua Leads

Moses sees the promised land and dies, and Joshua becomes their leader (Deuteronomy 34:1-12). Moses went to the top of Pisgah mountain and the Lord showed Moses all the land the Lord promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses was 120 years old but still able bodied with good eye site when he died. Moses was buried in Moab, and the Israelites mourned for 30 days. No other prophet has done what Moses did. Joshua became their leader and was given wisdom when Moses had prayed for him before Moses died.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Moses put his hands on and prayed for Joshua thus Joshua received wisdom. Joshua was going to need that wisdom to lead the Israelites in taking the promised land. When an elder knows their time is coming, they can also consult God for who should be the next leader. The elder can then pray for that person so God imparts whatever knowledge, wisdom, strength, endurance, or other things the leader needs.

Do you know anyone who God chose as the next leader of an organization and the prior leader prayed for them?
