Today I read Judges 5, the song of Deborah and Barak praising God and detailing the victory. Today I considered that God does raise up women as leaders and fighters for His kingdom.
Deborah and Barak’s Song
When they defeated king Jabin, Deborah and Abinoam’s son Barak sang a song to the Lord (Judges 5:1-31). They praised God. Deborah and Barak sang of how the people worshiped new gods bringing war to their territory. Deborah said God had her rise as a mother in Israel. They told of those who did and did not help them fight. Their song included how the battle was won with the help of God. They sung of Jael being blessed among woman for killing Sisera. They spoke might to those loving the Lord. The Israelites then had peace for 40 years.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
God loves and uses in His kingdom His children both male and female. Many people believe women should never be over anything or in charge of anything, but that is not what the Bible shows. Deborah was a woman judge in Israel. Jael also was a woman with a warrior heart to help her people. These women loved and followed the Lord. It does not matter if you are a woman or a man, all of God’s children can do work for His kingdom.
What limitation have you put on yourself, that was not a limitation put by God, because of you being a male or female?
