Today I read Judges 17, in which Micah’s idols and priest are his way of seeking the Lord. Today I considered that without the guidance of God’s word people can seek the Lord in the wrong way, and people need Bibles.

Micah’s Seeking God

Micah was doing whatever he knew to do to please God (Judges 17:1-13). There was no leader over Israel at this time, so everyone did that they thought was right. Micah had taken his mom’s money but gave it back when he heard her cursing who stole it. She then dedicated part of it to making an image for Micah’s temple. Micah had a private temple of idols and dedicated one of his son’s to be the priest. When a Levite came through looking for work, Micah invited the Levite to be his priest. Micah was paying the Levite, and providing food, clothing, and shelter. Micah believed the Lord would take care of him for having a Levite as his priest.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

People need the Bible to know how to seek God. Micah wanted to please God and even created a private temple. Micah had idols in his temple and hired a Levite as his priest that was seeking work but did not show he was taught to be a priest. Micah probably heard that Levites were supposed to work for God. Micah was probably going by what he heard instead of seeking the truth in the Word. If Micah even knew the Ten Commandments, he would not have any idols in his temple.

Who do you know that is seeking God that you can introduce the written Word of the Bible to them?
