Today I read Ecclesiastes 8, mentioning wisdom, leadership, and enjoying the fruits of your labor. Today I considered that even if we are knowledgeable and sensible, God wants us to also enjoy life on earth.

Leadership and Limits to Our Wisdom

Everyone is to try to obey their leaders and know wisdom is beneficial, but we are limited in what we’ll understand compared to God (Ecclesiastes 8:1-17). When you have made promises, obey your king but follow God’s commandments. A man abusing his power can do so to his own harm. It is better to quickly punish someone for their crimes, so they don’t have time to continue scheming. Sometimes the wicked get what the righteous deserve. Because of the vanity of life, it is better to eat, drink and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Wisdom makes people physically look brighter. Even if we seek wisdom, we’ll never understand all the work that God has done.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

People learn and grow in knowledge and wisdom. They learn to save, be frugal with their money, and not to spend unless necessary. Sometimes we need to spend a little to enjoy life. We still have to pay our bills and everything, but we need to have a little money for enjoyment. God wants us to enjoy eating and drinking and rejoicing over the blessing God has given us. When we can, maybe get the more expensive bread or desert that you really like and praise God for the blessing. We may consider buying a coke or tea or fruit drink occasionally and praising God for it.

What have you recently bought as a treat to yourself and praised God for it?
