Today I read Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar’s dream was revealed by God to Daniel resulting in Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah being blessed. Today I considered that God can take a potential tragedy and turn it into a blessing.
Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream and Daniel’s Blessing
Syrian king Nebuchadnezzar had a troubling dream and told the wise men to tell him the dream and interpretation of the dream or he would kill all the wise men, but Daniel was blessed by these events (Daniel 2:1-49). Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that caused him to wake from his sleep, but he couldn’t remember the dream. He all those with knowledge including the magicians, astrologers, soothsayers, Chaldeans, and wise men to tell him the dream and the interpretation. They admitted they could not. Nebuchadnezzar said he was going to kill all the wise men of Babylon and Daniel heard and knew it applied to him, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Daniel asked for time and went to his three friends and told them what was happening. They asked God for mercy to know the secret and not die with the other wise men. God told Daniel and Daniel praised God. Arioch, over the wise men, quickly brought Daniel before the king. The king asked if Daniel knew the dream and Daniel said God revealed the secret for king Nebuchadnezzar to know about the later days. Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar about the image of gold, silver, brass, and iron and explained the coming kingdoms. Nebuchadnezzar worshiped Daniel, made him great, and set him as ruler over whole province of Babylon. Daniel asked and Nebuchadnezzar allowed Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah to be over the matters of the territory of Babylon.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
The men following God went from potential downfall to elevation. Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were facing the possibility of death if Nebuchadnezzar’s dream was not known and interpreted. They sought God and God delivered a miracle. They went from possible death to promotion into positions over the territory.
When have you seen God take a potentially awful situation and turn it into something great?
