Today I read Hosea 3, Israel will return to God after a long time of betraying God. Today I considered that God uses adultery as a comparison to our betrayal of God.

Betrayal Like Adultery

The Lord uses this situation to show the Israelites behavior (Hosea 3:1-5). God told Hosea to go love the adulteress. Hosea paid her to stay with only him for a long time. God told him the Israelites will live for a long time without a ruler and without sacrifices before returning and seeking God.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

God considers some people’s behavior towards him like adultery. Adultery is something we have seen destroy marriages and families, and harm children and the lives of others. This is not something to be taken lightly. As an example: a married couple with children could be in a business together with employees. One person in the marriage cheats and commits adultery, and the faithful partner is heartbroken. The couple get a divorce. The two sides of the family are at odds. The children are torn between the parents. The company is sold and divided. The employees lose their jobs, and their families are negatively impacted. One person’s actions could harm more than 50 lives.  The same applies to our faith. One person’s faith can also touch so many lives through their spouse, children, and employees.

Are you someone committing what God considers adultery or someone leading people toward God?
