Today I read John 13, where Jesus demonstrated caring for the disciples, told them one of the disciples would betray him, and told Peter that Peter would deny him. Today I considered that if Jesus showing love and doing miracles faced betrayal and denial, how can we think we won’t face betrayal and/or denial.
Demonstrated Love, Betrayal, and Denial
Before the Passover feast Jesus washed their feet and told of a betrayal and a denial of Jesus (John 13:1-38). Jesus took off his garments, wrapped himself in a towel, washed the disciples’ feet and dried their feet with the towel. Jesus did this as an example to follow his behavior and saying he that is sent by God is not greater than God. Jesus said that if people receive who he sends they receive him. Jesus told them someone sitting with them would betray Jesus. Jesus said the betrayer was the one he handed the bread dipped in sauce or liquid and handed it to Judas Iscariot. Then Jesus told Judas to go do what he needed to do. When Judas was gone, Jesus told them they will be known as his by showing love toward one another. Jesus said he was leaving and Peter wanted to follow. Jesus explained that Peter would deny Jesus three times before the cock crows.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Majority of people have faced some form of betrayal or a person not acknowledging them. The earth is filled with sinful, absentminded, neglectful, and fearful people. Even though betrayal and not being acknowledged happens in the earth, God still loves you.
Can you give an example when you felt betrayed or ignored and still knew God loves you?
