Today I read John 16, where Jesus foretells of Jews coming tribulation, coming of the Spirit, and farewell to his disciples. Today I considered that the Holy Spirit lets us accept and hear things about ourselves and others we could not accept other people telling us.

Coming Comforter and Farewell

Jesus is leaving but sending the Holy Spirit (John 16:1-33). Jesus told the disciples a time will come, after Jesus has returned to the Father, that people will believe they are serving God by killing Jews. Jesus knew they were sad because he said he’s leaving, but Jesus had to leave to send the Comforter called the Spirit of Truth. The Comforter will tell us things we could not stand to hear from Jesus. Like a woman going through labor, they will experience sorrow but have joy after the child is born. Jesus says they will all leave him, but he will not be alone because the Heavenly Father is with him. Jesus has overcome the world.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Sometimes people tell us things we are not willing to believe. The information could be about ourselves, a fiancé, spouse, child, parent, friend, co-worker, neighbor, or someone else. Later you may be praying, have visions, dreams, or even a desire to be in a certain place and see the truth. The Holy Spirit called the Spirit of Truth will reveal the truth and help us see things we would not have accepted otherwise.

When have you prayed and God revealed something to you about yourself or others?
