Today I read Exodus 35 and 36, which talk about offerings given for the tabernacle, skilled and called workmen, and working on parts of the tabernacle. The people gave more than was needed for the work of the tabernacle. The workers started crafting including curtains, coverings, boards and pillars. Today I considered that God wants us to be willing to give of our resources whether things or skills.
Willing Offerings to the Lord
God wants willing offerings of items and skills (Exodus 35:1-29 and 36:5-6). God commanded willing offerings of precious metals, fine linen, gemstones, oil, spices, and skilled labor. Wise women’s hearts were stirred to make things like spinning goats’ hair and weaving linen for the Lord, thus showing their willingness. The people gave more than enough for the sanctuary. Their willingness was mentioned repeatedly in this chapter of the Bible. God wants everything we give to him from items to our time and skills to be given willingly.
Talented Labor
God called specific talented people to be over the craftsmanship of the sanctuary and all its items (Exodus 35:30-36:38). Bezaleel and Aholiab and wise-hearted men did all kinds of work for the sanctuary. They made curtains with cherubims, made coverings for the tent of dyed skins, and boards and pillars for the tabernacle. Everything was made according to the directions from God including size, colors, and materials used. God also calls some of us to make things for the promoting of His kingdom, but we have to be willing to use our craftsmanship for God.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
Through churches, Christian organizations, and nonprofits, people have donated a variety to services. Individuals have tutored, knit caps, made quilts for fundraisers, donated carpentry skills, cut grass, manicured lawns, hosted fundraisers, created and maintained food banks, and more. The list is long of things people do and can still direct people toward Christ or at least show their willing to serve God in their actions.
Have you ever considered donating your time and skills to God if you don’t have money or items to give to God?
