Today I read Proverbs 18, which continues to talk about the wise and the foolish but has some popular verses. Some verses I have heard often and believe we can put faith in those words. Since God’s word does not come back void we can memorize and use these verses. I will do the blog a little different today based around verses. Today I considered that God protects us, we are to nurture our talents, what we say matters, marriage can be a blessing, and true friends are loyal.

God Protects

God can protect us if we call on Him for help. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10 KJV). Whether we call God, Heavenly Father, the Most High God, King of Kings, Father God, Almighty God, Jehovah, or another of His names, God will protect his children that are truly trying to do right.

 Nurture Your Gift

God made each of us unique with talents that God will reward us for using. “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men” (Proverbs 18:16 KJV). We need to find our unique gifts or talents and develop them. When we develop our talents we will be recognized for it by leaders and better able to promote God’s kingdom.

Words Matter

God has given His children spiritual power to speak into situations. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Proverbs 18:21 ESV). We are to be careful what we speak over ourselves and others. We should speak life, success, good health, the ability to complete the task, and positivity over our situations because of the power within our words.

Marriage as a Blessing

Marriage between a God-fearing husband and wife is a blessing. “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD” (Proverbs 18:22 ESV). We are to marry spouses with the qualities outlined in the Bible to obtain that blessing.

Friendship and Loyalty

People that desire friends should be pleasant to others but still choose close friends wisely. “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24 KJV). “There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24 NLT). We can obtain friends by our behavior towards others but we should keep people as friends by looking at both their words and behavior towards us.
