Today I read Proverbs 20, which has passages about a lot of different things from the behavior of farmers to children to kings. Today I considered the importance of preparing for the harvest and children’s behavior.
Harvest Requires Preparation
God expects us to work so that we have a harvest (Proverbs 20: 4 & 13). During planting season, they did all the work to get the seed in the ground. They had to get up each day, work, and not sleep the day away. That is how they had a harvest and food to eat later. We also have to develop the ground and plant the seeds for anything we want to later harvest.
Behavior Speaks
God expects us to know people by their works even at a young age. “Even children are known by the way they act, whether their conduct is pure, and whether it is right” (Proverbs 20:11 NLT). Children’s behavior matters. We should teach children to be pure and do right things so they are known by their positive conduct.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
People have so many different jobs they can do in their lives now from computer programmer to financial aid officer to farmer to plumber to doctor. All of these things require different preparation to reap a harvest. Preparation can include classes, trainings, competitions, supplies, tools, and even keeping your body in shape to endure the physical labor or long operations. Preparation is required before the harvest.
What is an example you think about for preparing before you harvest?
