Today I read Proverbs 23, which talks about being wise and consequences of decisions including being careful of leaders and drinking. Today I considered not following leaders that do evil and being cautious concerning drinking.
Leadership and Trusting God
God warns us not to be negatively influenced by leaders or those in authority (Proverbs 23:1-8). Even when a leader tries to give you things you believe you desire, check it carefully. If it is given with negative intentions or will cause you to be greedy, do not take it. We should remember that while we want to believe in the leaders around us we should still believe in God, His Word, and His guidance more.
Drinking
God warns about being around those that get drunk and not to drink a lot (Proverbs 23:20-35). Drunkenness can lead to poverty, hallucinations, vertigo, and sickness. We should avoid over indulging because we care about our wealth and our health.
Questions and Thoughts for Today
While many leaders are okay to follow, sometimes we should not follow the authority of leaders. Leaders have killed their own people like the 1978 Jonestown Massacre link, killed groups of people through genocide, allowed experimentation on people and sometimes encouraged it, and sometimes given bad advice that harmed people. We have to review each person and action through prayer and God’s guidance.
What is something you were surprised a leader did?
