Today I read 1 Kings 5:1-8 and Nehemiah 4:7-23, showing the difference between building in peaceful times versus building during a conflict. Today I considered that right now in the US and many other places it is a peaceful time in which you can build and better than waiting until conflicts and fighting arrives. You can build your locations, supplies, gardens, animal populations, and more right now.

Building In Peaceful Times

Solomon became the next king after David and was able to build the temple in peaceful times (1 Kings 5:1-8). David was not able to build the temple for God because of constant war. During Solomon’s reign the king of Tyre agreed to supply wood for the building. They were able to build without worrying about fighting off intruders and no one was trying to stop Solomon from building.

Building During Adversity

Nehemiah came to rebuild the walls when surrounded by enemies trying to stop their progress (Nehemiah 4:7-23). Nehemiah and the Israelites had to constantly keep watch over the wall with all adults continuously carrying weapons. They had to sleep in their clothes and continuously be aware of their surroundings. When attacks occurred, individuals were assigned to blow the horn to alert everyone to come to that sections and defend the wall. They were constantly watching for enemies and building without the ability to have real rest.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Today I considered that it is significantly easier to build up your safe location, supplies, and everything you need when things are peaceful versus in a crisis or conflict. Right now, people can move around freely, buy things online and in the store, and generally go about their lives. Before anything like the 2020 lockdowns where individuals were desperate enough to steal food and fight over toilet paper and disinfectant supplies, everyone can prepare. Isn’t it better to store and prepare in peaceful times?
