Today I read 1 Kings 21:1-16 and Hosea 5:10, showing ways individuals took land. Today I considered that theft of land has occurred over the centuries through many ways so individuals need to watch over and protect their land.

Theft of Naboth’s Vineyard

Naboth was set up and killed for refusing to sale his vineyard (1 Kings 21:1-16). Ahab wanted Naboth’s vineyard and asked to buy the land or even trade other land to obtain the land. Naboth refused to part with his land because it was his inheritance. Ahab lay on his bed so upset about the land that his wife Jezebel told him she would get the land for him. Jezebel bribed individuals to have a feast for Naboth, frame him for speaking against God and the king, and stone him to death. After they killed Naboth, Jezebel told Ahab to get up and go claim the land.

Moving Boundary Markers

Individuals stole land by moving the boundary markers (Hosea 5:10). Boundary markers marked were one person’s land ended and another person’s land began.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Everyone who owns land and property needs to be aware of what is going on with their property to protect it. The story of Naboth’s vineyard and individuals moving boundary lines are only two of a lot of ways individuals steal property. Some use other methods to take property including violence, political deception, squatting or adverse possession, tax foreclosures, legal manipulation like heirs property issues, fake deeds, deed theft, and more. So, once you have the land and/or property as your location for disasters, you still have to make sure that location continues to be owned by you and stays safe.
