Today I read Genesis 26:12-22, demonstrating individuals willing to fight over well water. Today I considered the value of having a working well on your property and that others could become jealous.

Isaac’s Wells

Jealousy and desire for water caused Isaac to deal with conflict over water wells (Genesis 26:12-22). When Isaac planted seeds on the land, he received a hundred times that in harvest. Some Philistines were jealous of his success and stopped up some of the old wells. Isaac and his people moved and dug another well that had a spring, but the people there were willing to fight him over it. Isaac’s people dug a well in another location and were able to use that well without conflict.

Questions and Thoughts for Today

Some individuals might need water and are willing to fight for water. Other individuals may do things to your well because they want to stop your success. Regardless of the reason, having a working well, a flowing river, a lake, or another water resource close to where you live would be very beneficial if facing a water crisis.
